The World Cup The 2022 final will take place in Qatar on Sunday, with a piece of history up for grabs for both sets of players.

But it’s not just the Argentinian and French players who will take part in the biggest match of their career – the match will also be the highlight for referee Szymon Marciniak.

Given the scale of the match, the eyes of the world will be on the referee, with every decision scrutinized in TV studios, living rooms and pubs around the world.

But who exactly is the man who is the World Cup final?

Who is World Cup Referee Szymon Marciniak?

Marciniak has been a professional referee since 2006 and took charge of his first Polish top match in 2009.

His assignment in Sunday’s showpiece sees him become the first Polish referee to take charge of a World Cup final.

The 41-year-old has already refereed both teams in this year’s tournament, leading France’s win over Denmark in the group stage, followed by Argentina’s round of 16 victory over Australia.

Marciniak missed Euro 2020 after being diagnosed with tachycardia, a condition in which the heart beats abnormally fast.

The Pole has been on the FIFA list since 2011 and has whistled several times Champions League and Europa League matches since then.

Marciniak refereed the 2018 UEFA Super Cup Final RealMadrid and Atletico Madrid in Tallinn, Estonia.

He played two group stage matches at the World Cup in Russia four years ago; Argentina vs Iceland and Germany vs Sweden.

Marciniak also refereed during Euro 2016, taking charge of two group matches and one in the round of 16.

The popular referee was an official at the FIFA Arab Cup test event in Qatar last year.
