analyst Ming Chi Kuo’ has reiterated its earlier claim that Apple could announce its VR headset in early 2023.

Kuo has previously hesitated between saying the Apple AR headset will be announced in January 2023 and will slide to the second quarter of 2023. Now, however, his latest report says January, but it’s not clear if this is the result of new information from the supply chain.

Since March 2022, Kuo mainly writes reports via Twitter and Medium blog posts. This tweeted screengrab of his previously more famous investor reports was: posted to refute a claim that he was no longer employed writing investment reports.

Perhaps that’s why the embedded report is an introduction to Apple’s coming months. So it has little to do with the date, and what appears to be a reasoned extrapolation rather than supply chain information.

“Apple may announce the AR/MR headset as early as January 2023,” he writes. “User scenarios, software/service/development ecosystem and hardware specification details are expected to be the three key points of the announcement.”

“The market expects Apple AR/MR headsets to cost between $2,000 and $2,500 or higher,” he continues, “and believes this will affect shipments.”

That assumption that a high price means less sales is typical of this particular Kuo background description of the market. He similarly predicts that if Apple’s media event goes well, investors will feel more confident that the product will succeed.
